Shower Repair

Dripping valves, weak pressure, and slow drains fixed by plumbers with integrity.

About Shower Repair in West Palm Beach, FL

At Integrity Plumbing and Drain, we repair showers of every kind across West Palm Beach and Palm Beach County. That covers the shower that drips all night, the one that lost its pressure, the one that drains slower every month, and the one that left a damp spot on the wall in the next room. Most of these come down to a handful of parts behind the tile, and we carry the common ones on the truck.

A shower is easy to live with when something is a little wrong, which is exactly why small shower problems turn into expensive ones. A dripping valve wastes water every hour of every day. A slow drain is telling you something about the line underneath it. A leak behind the wall does its damage out of sight. We find the actual cause, show you what we found, and give you the price before we start.

Shower Repair: Our Process

A shower problem can come from the valve, the drain, or the pipe behind the wall. We find out which one before anything gets opened up.

  1. 1

    Arrival

A member of our team arrives at your home in uniform in a branded truck. We put down a mat and we work clean, because a shower repair happens in a room that is tight and already finished.

  2. 2

    Diagnose

We run the shower and watch how it behaves. We check the valve, the cartridge, the pressure at the head, the drain speed, and the wall on the other side. If the problem is a leak we cannot see, we use our leak detection equipment rather than guessing at where to open the tile.

  3. 3

    Explain and Price

We tell you what is wrong in plain language and show you what we found. You get the price before any work starts, and if there is a cheaper option that solves the same problem we will say so. If the honest answer is that nothing is wrong, that is what you will hear.

  4. 4

    Repair and Test

We complete the repair, usually in the same visit. Then we run the shower again with you there, check the temperature and the pressure, confirm the drip is gone, and clean up behind us.

Why Showers Fail Here

What our water and our older homes do to a shower over time.

Hard Water and Shower Valves

West Palm Beach water is hard, and hard water is rough on the small moving parts inside a shower valve. Mineral scale works into the cartridge and the seats over a few years, and the result is a drip that will not stop, a handle that gets stiff, or water that runs hot and cold on its own. Replacing the cartridge fixes most of it. If scale is the pattern all over your home, our water filtration systems treat the cause instead of the symptom.

Drains That Slow Down Every Year

Shower drains clog from hair and soap scum binding together in the trap and the branch line just past it. It happens slowly, so most people adjust to it without noticing until the water is standing at their ankles. A cable run through the trap arm clears a normal one. A shower that clogs again a few months later is telling you the problem sits farther down the line, and we covered why that happens in our guide to shower drains that keep clogging.

The Leaks You Cannot See

A shower leak rarely shows up in the shower. It shows up as a soft spot in the floor, a stain on the ceiling below, a damp baseboard in the next room, or a musty smell that never clears. The source is usually the valve body, a supply connection, the drain assembly, or a failed shower pan. Finding it without tearing out good tile is the whole job, which is why we keep leak detection in house instead of subcontracting it out.

Signs You Need Professional Drain Cleaning

Plumbing issues often start small before becoming major headaches. Watch for these common warning signs:

Slow draining water in showers, tubs, or sinks
Gurgling sounds coming from the toilet or drains
Foul odors (sewer gas smells) inside the home
Water backing up into the bathtub when flushing
Multiple clogged fixtures at the same time
Recurring clogs despite using a plunger

Common Shower Problems in West Palm Beach Homes

The repairs we get called for most and what is actually behind them.

The shower that will not stop dripping

This is the most common shower call we get. Water keeps running from the head or the tub spout after the handle is off, sometimes a drip every few seconds, sometimes a thin steady stream. Almost always the cause is a worn cartridge or a worn seat inside the valve. It is an inexpensive part and a short repair, and it is worth doing quickly. A shower that drips once per second wastes over three thousand gallons in a year, and you are paying for every one of them on a bill that keeps climbing for no reason you can see.

Weak pressure at the shower only

If the pressure is fine at your sinks but weak in the shower, the problem is usually local to that fixture. A clogged shower head is the easiest fix and often the answer, since mineral deposits build up in the small holes and choke the spray. Past that we look at the cartridge, the volume control, and any shut off behind the wall that got bumped. When the pressure is weak everywhere in the house instead of one shower, that is a different problem with different causes, and our guide to low water pressure walks through it.

Water that runs hot and cold on its own

A shower that swings in temperature while you are standing in it usually has a failing pressure balance cartridge. That part is there to hold the mix steady when someone flushes a toilet or starts the washer, and when it wears out it stops doing that job. If the shower has never gotten properly hot, the problem is more likely the water heater than the shower, and our water heater repair page covers that side of it. We check both before recommending anything.

Leaks behind the wall and under the pan

This is the shower problem that costs real money when it is ignored. A slow leak at the valve body or the drain connection soaks the framing and the subfloor for months before anything shows on the surface. In older West Palm Beach homes with cast iron drains, the shower drain connection is a common failure point because the pipe corrodes from the inside out. We locate the leak first and open the smallest access we can, rather than pulling a wall of tile to go looking for it.

Valve replacement and getting to it

Sometimes the cartridge is discontinued, the valve body is cracked, or the shower was plumbed in a way that no modern trim will fit. Replacing the valve means getting behind it, which is simple when there is a closet or a hallway on the other side and more involved when the only way in is through the tile. We tell you which situation you are in before we start, and we quote the access work as part of the job instead of surprising you with it after the wall is open.

When a repair stops making sense

Repair is almost always the right call on a shower where the tile and the pan are sound and only the working parts have worn out. Replacement starts making more sense when the pan is failing, when the tile is cracked across a wide area, when the valve sits behind finished work that has to come out anyway, or when you were already thinking about redoing the bathroom. We will tell you honestly which side of that line your shower is on, and if a remodel is the better use of your money our bathroom remodeling team can take it from there.
